NB Nursery children may be enrolled on a flexible programme that includes either 2, 3 or 4 full days.
Medical Requirements
We employ a school nurse who is highly experienced in dealing with young children. A number of key staff in each building are also fully trained in First Aid procedures.
Administration of Medicine during school hours
English as an Additional Language (EAL)
We offer additional support to those children joining us who may be learning English for the first time. We employ a specialist teacher who can provide children with tuition on an individual basis.
Special Educational Needs
Children with special needs are admitted to the school at the discretion of the Head teacher and only after careful consideration that we can truly meet their requirements. Speech and language therapy can be arranged through the school.
Sport and Extra Educational Activities
Children have two Physical education lessons each week. Our extra curricular activities include: Art, Drama, Music, Dance, Beavers, Rainbows, I.T. and Saturday morning football and multi-sports for both boys and girls.
French
French is introduced from the Reception class onwards. The lessons are taught by a specialist teacher, and the emphasis is on enjoyment and learning through songs and games. The course is mainly oral, developing good listening skills, and enabling the children to communicate in French in a simple way. Written French is introduced from Year 3. We also offer an advanced French course for First language French families.
Religious Education
RE is taught from Year 1 onwards, and often links in with the class topic. The course is mainly Christian, based on Bible stories, but also covers aspects of other religions, particularly festivals and customs. The programme encourages children to think through some ethical and moral issues.
Communication
The majority of parents have daily contact with their childs’ class teacher either at the start or at the end of the day. This informal and frequent contact is extremely valuable and an essential element of the ethos of the school. More formal “Open Parents Meetings” keep the parent body involved and informed of school developments. A weekly newsletter features activities in the classrooms and details forthcoming events in school.
Reporting
We hold individual parent teacher consultation meetings in November and March. A detailed written report is issued in June or when a child leaves the school. There is a general information meeting and a “meet the teachers” session at the start of each academic year.
Uniform
Although the school does not have an official uniform we are very pleased to offer a range of polo shirts and sweatshirts in our school colours of red white and blue. The wearing of these is entirely optional although we do request that children wear them for school journeys or for those occasions when we are performing in public.
Accessibility and Transport
The school is easily reached by car or public transport. A door to door mini bus service is organised to cover certain local areas and is charged for on a cost recovery basis.
